The design brand Susheng, founded by the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts teacher Zhang Junjie, launched a new series of bamboo lampshade series during the recent Design Shanghai.
The entire series is arranged in curved bamboo to form an organic hollow shape that can be used as a lampshade. The wavy pattern of intersecting parallel lines creates intricate shadows as the light projects through them.
In the designer's many years of experiments, he was surprised to find that bamboo is elastic. He decided to explore this further by creating a series of woven products. The Bamboo Softness project aims to test the limits of bamboo's elasticity and show its softness. “The bamboo is very strong and tough, but it also has a soft side,” he said.
