Anemeli Achieves Her Owner’s Ambitions

With three decades of yacht ownership under his belt, the owner of Anemeli had a finely focused vision for the nearly 89-footer (27-meter). Delivered by Van der Valk 15 months after the all-aluminum construction started, the megayacht is among the Dutch yard’s first fast-displacement projects. She also has some highly tailored features.

Performance efficiency clearly is among the priorities. Ginton Naval Architects designed a round-bilged fast-displacement hull additionally fitted with a bulbous bow. Bulbous bows aid in seakeeping, and in combination with her powerful MAN engines, Anemeli achieves a reported top speed exceeding 30 knots at half load. Van der Valk says this is better than initially expected. On a related note, the MANs are V12-1900 units, the manufacturer’s most powerful high-speed diesel engines to date. For further good seakeeping, Anemeli has the VEEM VG120 stabilizer system. VEEM developed it specifically for small superyachts as well as small commercial workboats operating in varying conditions.

Yet another priority for the owner: having the flying bridge devoted to relaxation. This means no tender taking up valuable space here. Therefore, he requested an Opacmare Transformer platform at the transom. This platform handily holds the tender while underway, plus serves several other functions. For example, since it’s pantographic, it folds out to become an extended swim platform. It also doubles as a passerelle. Even better, the crew of Anemeli can use it to hoist baggage onboard when guests arrive.

Speaking of guests, Anemeli caters to eight in the owner’s party. Informal dining takes place in the cherrywood-lined saloon, due to an extending table. Below decks, the master suite (see top) spans the 22-foot (6.72-meter) beam. The owner also gave good thought to his and his guests’ interactions with the crew. While they reach their quarters via a foredeck hatch, they can tell guests about upcoming destinations at either the flying bridge helm or the primary inside helm. Both spots have observation settees. And, on the subject of the helm, sightlines aft are clear. Interior designer (and exterior stylist) Guido de Groot ensured the staircase leading to the flying bridge is a floating staircase.

Now that Anemeli is in her owner’s hands (she launched in May), he’ll be putting her special touches to good use. Surely he’s already stocking the large freezer in the lazarette. With what, you ask? Fish—freshly caught fish, landed by him. He’s an avid angler, plus has dive gear and SeaBobs on hand.
