Jaruco, a.k.a. Project Ireland, Revealed by Jarrett Bay

It’s official. The name of the super-size sportfisherman code named Project Ireland at Jarrett Bay Boatworks is Jaruco (pronounced “ha-ROO-koh”).

Avid anglers are well familiar with Team Jaruco. The owner, captain, and crew fish tournaments all around the world, chasing marlin and more. They’ve fished aboard several boats christened Jaruco, in fact. Those boats include a Garlington 78 purchased on the brokerage market 10 years after launch. The owner refitted her at Rybovich in 2013. Construction on the new Jarcuo started in 2014.

Since Jarrett Bay is renowned for building battlewagons, the choice of the yard makes sense. But the 90-footer (27.43-meter) and her owner have still “challenged us at every step,” yard founder and president Randy Ramsey says. It’s due to the use of carbon fiber. While still cold-molded construction, Jaruco is the world’s first sportfisherman to use carbon fiber. For example, she employs significant amounts of carbon fiber in her bridge, cabin, and decks. Titanium is in those areas, too. Plus, the stringers and bulkheads are entirely carbon fiber.

Just like in performance sailing superyachts, where weight savings is key, sportfishermen are mindful of weight. Between the advantages of carbon fiber and her hull, Jarcuo should maneuver nearly as easily as one far smaller in size. Jarrett Bay isn’t divulging the anticipated performance. Regardless, twin 2,600-hp MTUs should pack quite a power punch during sea trials in several weeks. The shipyard just marked her waterline, as seen in the photo above, this week.

With a beam of 22’6” (6.9 meters), Jaruco will accommodate the owner, guests, and crew in six total staterooms. Both the master and crew’s quarters are full beam.

You’ll have to wait until the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to see them, though. That is, if you can tear your attention away from her 310-square-foot (28.8-square-meter) cockpit.

In the meantime, check out this video for commentary by Ramsey himself on what Jaruco means to Jarrett Bay.
