Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman has signed an order for an 85 metre sailing yacht, codenamed Project 410, which is set to become the world's largest sloop.

The record-breaking yacht has been commissioned by an experienced owner and was unveiled at the start of the St Barths Bucket Regatta. At 85 metres long, the new design will knock the current title-holder for the largest single-masted sailing yacht, the 78 metre M5, off the top spot by an extra seven metres.

Royal Huisman has described the design as a "true performance superyacht" with "supersized dimensions". Frers Design and Wetzels Brown have teamed up to create the design concept to meet the owner's challenging brief.

Project 410 will be feature a hybrid propulsion system and will be capable of regenerating energy while under sail. The design builds on the technology used on board Ethereal, also launched by Royal Huisman, which was pinned as the world's first hybrid superyacht. A two-megawatt battery bank will allow for silent propulsion and maximum comfort and Project 410 will even qualify for the new Lloyd's Hybrid Power certificate.

Aside from propulsion, the yacht is packed with other green credentials and will make use of recyclable and low-impact materials throughout its construction. Elsewhere, the yacht will feature a carbon mast, boom and integrated sailing system designed by Royal Huisman’s sister company, Rondal.

Peter Naeyé, chief commercial officer at Royal Huisman, said: “It is an extraordinary honour to be entrusted with a project of such scale, ambition, and technical sophistication. This project is already iconic in every aspect and will be built by the finest craftsmen in the world in full collaboration with her talented designers. We're all going to enjoy the realisation of bespoke excellence embraced with 'New World’ technology.”

Project 410 will be constructed in aluminium at Royal Huisman’s new build facility in Vollenhove.

The shipyard is no stranger to building record-breaking vessels. It launched the 81 metre flagship Sea Eagle II in 2020, the world's largest aluminium sailing yacht, and work is currently underway on the 52 metre Project 406, better known as the world's largest sportfishing yacht.
