talian studio Francesco Struglia has presented a new 50 metre trimaran concept called Onda.
Named after the Italian word for “wave”, Onda’s unusual exterior design centres around a sharp trimaran hull with glass-covered sides, asymmetric aft decks and a sloping, glass-covered forward deck.
The concept has a beam of 9.8 metres and features a number of smart design choices to keep the yacht as wide as possible while maintaining a low displacement.
Meanwhile, the asymmetrical decks allow for fantastic views and “a management of shaded areas and sunny areas in a whole new rhythm,” according to Francesco Struglia of the eponymous design studio.
In contrast with the exterior, the interior layout is more predictable, according to Struglia. The wheelhouse, crew accommodation and other technical areas are located in the forward portion of boat to ensure minimal crossover between crew and guest areas.
On the upper deck amidships, an owner's suite is divided into an apartment of 90 square metres with a connection to a private panoramic terrace with Jacuzzi.
In terms of social areas, the yacht volunteers three separate lounge areas, including a 60 square metre beach club. Elsewhere, there is a pool on the bow which measures 5.3 meters long and a tender garage which can store a nine metre tender transversely.
Onda is the perfect marriage between a “contemporary architectural structural concept” and “an experimental layout”, according to Struglia.
It would be equipped with twin MTU engines offering a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 10 knots.
