Feadship launches 84m Project 710 with biofuel generators

Feadship's new 84.2-metre was eased out of the shed in Aalsmeer yesterday (April 20). Known only as Project 710, the silver-hulled superyacht has a futuristic exterior look designed RWD in collaboration with MONK Design.

As part of Feadship's mission to produce more sustainably-focused yachts, the new project will use second-generation biodiesel (HVO) in its generators, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by up to 90 per cent. 

She also has 4.5 times more electrical storage capacity than Feadship's first hybrid yacht, 83.5-metre Savannah and has no drive shafts, and no rudders. Electric drive and steering are through a pair of electric Veth contra-rotating thrusters.

Design features include an "Aqua Lounge" with large windows below sea level, similar to the Nemo lounge on Savannah, and an asymmetrical atrium staircase leading to a lower deck dining saloon, where a wall opens to reveal a terrace view just above sea level. 

Project 710 also has a single-level engine room that with allow for more flexibility in the layout of the accommodation. At the bow of the vessel there is an observation lounge with double-curved glass floor-to-ceiling windows. In a press release, Feadship said: "Terraced aft decks float without pillars, while glass balustrades allow unobstructed views from both aft deck and fully glazed aft interior spaces, creating a vital connection to the natural environment."

According to Feadship, the yacht's length is "optically stretched by a low profile, horizontal styling features, and very clean shapes flowing aft form a strong bow showcasing strength and seaworthiness."

Construction on the new build began in 2020, and once delivered the yacht will become Feadship's 17th largest yacht and the 17th collaboration between RWD and Feadship, with 96.5-metre Faith being the largest and 71.1-metre Juice being the most recent.

According to BOATPro, Feadship has 16 projects in build, including its future flagship 118-metre Project 1010, which was seen on sea trials last year. Including 1010 and 710, the yard is also expected to deliver Project 822 and and Project 823 this year.
