Italian shipyard Rossinavi has launched its first-ever explorer yacht from its Pisa shipyard. Named Akula, the 59.4-metre yacht was rolled out of the shed sporting a scarlet hull from the drawing boards of Gian Paolo Nari.
The ice-classed vessel is designed with global expedition in mind and fitted with diesel-electric propulsion for "optimised fuel consumption and low impact on the environment" during long periods of time at sea, the yard said.

Interior design is by Ancona-based FM Architettura, and the yacht's layout is optimised to support "marine research activities and philanthropic projects". She will be able to store a pair of custom-built nine-metre tenders, various diving equipment, and two six-metre containers that can act as transportable science labs.
Elsewhere, the forward manoeuvring station is located below deck, freeing up space in the bow for an open-air observation lounge. Meanwhile, the sundeck is configured as a technical area, where the emergency generator is located.

The 1,215GT yacht has a beam of 11.3 metres, a draught of 3.5 metres and a "cosy yet elegant" interior theme, which has been created through a close collaboration between the owner and the designer.
"I was very lucky to meet this owner, who guided and empowered the entire team involved in the creation of this yacht. A real ship, a combination of elements that led to an original result: a strong but elegant vessel that fits perfectly with our view of modern yachting,” said Francesca Muzio, founder of FM Architettura.

The owners are being represented by ACP Surveyors, who are also acting as project managers throughout the build. "In order to fulfill the owners’ brief, great importance has been given to efficiency and ocean-going capabilities," said Andrea Carlevaris Founder and CEO of ACP Surveyors.
"The key concept of this project is that it is a boat for cruising,” explained Federico Rossi, chief operating officer of Rossinavi. "With the owner’s input, we were able to best express the know-how and skills we have gained through decades of experience.”
The launch comes shortly after the splash of No Stress and Alchemy . The yard also has a 43-metre catamaran called SeaCat under construction.
