Hong-Kong-based design house M51 Concepts has unveiled the renderings for a new superyacht concept Amplitude. The unique 95-metre aluminium and composite superyacht boasts new developing technologies, such as two inflatable wing sails. Amplitude yacht exterior design by M51 Concepts.

Amplitude draws inspiration from another one of designer Anthony Glasson’s concepts, Pendulum. “Pendulum, which is a run of the mill motor boat design, inspired by a simple doodle of the bow design, which dictated the rest of the exterior design,” described Anthony.

“However, the philosophy of Amplitude is not run of the mill. She is a futuristic attempt at a large motor yacht style vessel, with as low as possible environmental impact, without going full sail boat.”

Amplitude is equipped with two inflatable wing sails, a developing technology, which plans to offer a lot of advantages for operation. The sails will reduce the need for complex deck equipment such as winches and halyards and can be easily inflated or deflated.

The sails will be computer-controlled to allow for automatic sailing and will be able to withstand various wind conditions. “Currently the wing sails would be used in conjunction with the propulsion drive to reduce fuel consumption,” explained Anthony Glasson. “But as the technology improves one day, they could be used alone on a vessel of this size.”

Much like her exterior, the interior of Amplitude showcases a modern design. “I wanted it to be almost futuristic Sci-Fi but with more traditional yacht materials, such as wood and marble, which are used throughout as highlights,” added Anthony.

The bridge deck of Amplitude is home to a large living and entertainment space, with vaulted ceilings and skylights to increase her flow of natural light. The area includes dining, as well as a lounge bar which wraps around the aft inflatable mast and can serve guests both inside and out.

Another unique feature of this area is the forward wall which is almost entirely made up of LED screens, to display the front view from the bow of the ship, or for watching movies as a group.
Amplitude features a 13.2-metre beam and can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests. Her full-beam master suite also includes a LED display wall, as well as a corner bathtub separated from the rest of the space by glass walls.

The remaining guest accommodation consists of two VIP staterooms, four twin and two staterooms reserved for staff.
In terms of her exterior deck spaces, the bridge deck of Amplitude is designed to replace the typical layout of a sun deck, with a hot tub and seating on the forward deck and plenty of lounge space aft, with built-in sun beds.

Her main deck aft provides the perfect spot for alfresco dining in all weather conditions, with a semi-enclosed seating area for 12, while her aft deck houses a large swimming pool, more alfresco dining space and planter boxes containing beach grasses.
In terms of propulsion, Amplitude uses a hybrid-electric system consisting of HVO generators and an electric motor drive with battery banks. These battery banks can be charged by both the generators or her impressive 266 square-metres of solar panels.
