First look: Inside 53m Turquoise superyacht Jewels

Turkish shipyard Turquoise Yachts has offered a first look inside its 53-metre superyacht  Jewels ahead of her Monaco Yacht Show debut.

Launched in August last year, the yacht is Turquoise's second delivery of the year after Infinite Jest.

Miami-based studio DeBasto Design helmed the yacht’s distinctive sky-blue exterior, marking a first-time project for the pair. Meanwhile, long-time Turquoise collaborator H2 Yacht Design is responsible for the yacht’s interior, which uses a blend of teak, gold inlays and decorative stonework to fulfil the owner’s request for a “classic” look and feel.

Jewels is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and an interior volume of 720GT. “With Jewels’ enormous volume, my objective was to make the exterior less bulky and give a feeling of a forward dynamic movement, rather than a static feel,” said Luiz DeBasto.

“I wanted the design to show movement and purpose from any angle. I achieved this with the long ascending line from the swim platform all the way up to the mast and down to the pilothouse windshield," he added.

The other key objective was to ensure a fluid layout where “no one will feel lost”, according to DeBasto. To this end, the exterior spaces have been conceived with enough space for entertaining large groups, as well as more intimate gatherings.

Onboard highlights include a large swim platform that allows easy access to the water, as well as increased flexibility for tender manoeuvres. Jewels carries two tenders, including a 6.3-metre luxury tender and 4.3-metre rescue tender.

The yacht is crowned by a generous sundeck with a spa pool, sunpads, TV, day head, bar and “acres of open space”, according to Turquoise.

Accommodation is for 18 guests split across nine cabins, including an owner's cabin and VIP suite on the main deck forward. The large number of cabins has been achieved by sacrificing the typical beach club space for additional accommodation.

“The yacht’s general arrangement is unique and highly personalised, using all available space to maximise guest accommodation,” explained James Bermudez of H2 Yacht Design.

“The main deck retains the typical layout with main saloon, spacious full beam owner’s suite and neighbouring VIP cabin. On the bridge deck, an extra two cabins have been added between the bridge and upper saloon providing accommodation for 18 guests in total,” he continued.

Particular attention has also been given to ensuring a high level of separation between crew and guest areas. Accommodation for ten crew is found on the lower deck and a captain’s cabin sits on the upper deck, adjoined to the wheelhouse.

The opulent aesthetic is heightened with the interior decorative stairwell – awash with burl timbers, Giallo Siena marble, custom carpet designs and gold balustrades – which sits at the yacht's centre and links all three decks.

Jewels is powered by twin Caterpillar engines that give a top speed of 15 knots.

She is the fifteenth-largest project to be launched by Turquoise, with 77-metre Go remaining the flagship of the fleet. Alongside Go, there are eight other Turquoise yachts with design from H2.
