The 122-year-old classic yacht Madiz, the oldest yacht in the world to have Lloyd's classification, has joined the market with Jean-Marie Recamier and Jessica Ruez of Camper & Nicholsons. Classic yacht restoration and management firm G.L. Watson & Co has jointly listed the yacht for sale.

The steel-built 55-metre is one of the largest true classics from the early 20th century still on the water today and has lived a colorful life since her delivery from Scottish shipyard Ailsa Shipbuilding in 1902. She was commissioned as a support boat for her owner's schooner, but at the outbreak of World War I she was called into service by the Royal Navy. After World War II, she was acquired by British nobility and started her life as a pleasure cruiser in the Mediterranean.

The yacht was sold in the sixties and laid up in Piraeus, Greece until she was purchased by a Greek businessman who saw her potential and heritage. Several refits and a change of ownership later, Madiz has retained many of her charming original features with the added benefit of modern upgrades.

Madiz has a seven-cabin layout for up to 14 guests, with the interior styling following the same British Victorian themes as she did when she was launched. The master suite enjoys private deck access and a Jacuzzi-style tub, while one of the other cabins has a fair-sized office attached to it for working at sea.

There are ample outdoor deck areas on board for dining and unwinding, including an open sundeck and shaded forward seating for mealtimes. There is provision for a crew of ten and she is served by a 6-metre Riva Superflorida tender as well as a 6-metre classic launch. Double Mercedes 250 HP engines push her to a top speed of 11 knots, pared back to ten knots cruising and her range is 2,750 nautical miles at cruising pace.

Lying in Perama, Greece, Madiz is asking €9,750,000 with VAT paid.
