The first Arksen 85 explorer yacht Project Ocean has been confirmed for launch this summer. The yacht has completed the interior fit-out of all furniture and interior details. The engine room and electrical systems are also in the final stages of completion, ahead of commissioning and technical sea trials.
Once delivered, a large portion of Project Ocean’s Sea time will be dedicated to the Arksen Foundation for research and conservation work.
The 26.2-metre hybrid yacht is the first in Arksen's 85 autonomous hybrid explorer series. The yacht is designed by naval architect Humphreys Yacht Design and features a hull and superstructure constructed from recycled aluminium, capable of being recycled again at the end of the vessel's life.
Interiors are by Design Unlimited with customisations by the syndicate owners. To meet the client brief for a family home on the ocean, the team developed a custom interior that blends "comfort with the practicalities necessary for successful long-range cruising".
Enabling guests to take in their surroundings, the vessel features near-uninterrupted panoramic views from the main saloon and bridge deck. The lower deck will accommodate up to 10 guests in four en-suite cabins, including a full-beam owner’s cabin with a multi-purpose snug and library for remote working. The interior will feature a range of recycled and sustainable materials, with soft furnishings that even use recycled plastic bottles.
Co-director of Humphreys Yacht Design, Tom Humphreys, said: "Arksen’s dedication to researching and understanding our impact on the environment will be invaluable in helping to re-shape the development of leisure-vessel production in the motor yacht sector."
Project Ocean will be powered by a full hybrid propulsion package for a top speed of 14 knots and cruising speed from 9 to 11 knots, providing a range of up to 7000 nautical miles.
It will also be equipped with solar energy capabilities providing up to 7kW of zero-carbon electrical power.
The Arksen 85 is the flagship of the fledgling builder's fleet. The second unit in the series, Mamaluna, was delivered in December 2023 ahead of her sistership.
