Royal Huisman’s Special One is even more special than we initially thought.
This renewable, diesel-like biofuel is made from waste, such as used cooking oils and other fats. It can be used in conventional engines but produces 90 percent fewer carbon emissions than traditional diesel. As a result, Special One will be far cleaner on the high seas than her gas-guzzling competitors.
Labeled an “offshore battlewagon” and “sportfisher on steroids” by Vripack, Special One represents the pinnacle of marine design. It was honored in Robb Report’s Best of the Best awards this year, in fact. Spanning an impressive 171 feet, the bespoke cruiser features a highly efficient aluminum hull that also helps curb pollution.
“We applied our most radical naval architecture ever on this hull, resulting in dramatic lower resistance and, consequently, reduced fuel consumption,” Vripack’s co-creative director Bart Bouwhuis said in a statement. “However we were also very aware that no matter what, the twin V-20 MAN 4,500 kW drive train—which propels this yacht to over 32 knots—and her twin Zenoro 180 kW generators will always burn a substantial amount of fuel. We knew of this ‘new fuel’ and started our research.”
A low carbon footprint isn’t the only thing that makes Special One special, though: Designed for an experienced yachtsman and passionate angler, the six-deck yacht showcases a soaring tuna tower that doubles as a prime fishing spot and a viewing platform for guests. It also features a fighting chair, a dedicated bait-and-tackle room, insulated cooler boxes, and some 22 fishing rods. Other, non-fishing-related amenities include a scenic sky lounge, an outdoor cinema, and an open foredeck with oversized sun pads.
The interior, also designed by Vripack, evokes a penthouse with contemporary decor and sweeping views. The living quarters are still under wraps but will be revealed in the coming days in Monaco. The sheer size of the yacht means there is plenty of space for multiple cabins and living areas.
