A fire has damaged several yachts docked in Sunny Isles Marina, a residential space in Miami, Florida. The incident happened over the weekend (6 June) and resulted in several sub-24-metre vessels, two personal watercraft and a Falcon 86 model being badly affected.
According to local reports, authorities arrived at the scene at 5.00am to find the yacht fully engulfed in flames behind an apartment building. More than 25 units from the Miami Dade Fire Rescue battled the blaze, which had already begun to spread to two other vessels. They were assisted by personnel from Miami Fire Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife.
The area near the dock was swiftly evacuated, with the blaze brought under control by 7.30am.
The Falcon 86 is a 26.2-metre, traditional flybridge model built by Italian yard Falcon Yachts. Regarded as one of the most spacious in its size bracket, the flybridge has ample lounging space, a barbecue, a helm station and a large optional crane to carry water toys.
Exterior design on the two-deck yacht is by Italian studio Stefano Righini, who is also a collaborator with Italian yards Benetti and Mangusta.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
