The 39.2-metre Mangusta motor yacht Mirage has run aground while departing Bahia Mar Yachting Center in Fort Lauderdale. According to eyewitnesses, the yacht became "completely beached" on the sandbar and quickly began to list on her starboard side.

The video footage captures the first salvage effort by Steel Towing. The attempt, which saw Mirage's stern rigged to a rescue tender, was ultimately unsuccessful. This has been attributed to unfavourable tides, with the salvage company now having to wait before a second attempt can be made.

Delivered just this year, Mirage is one of the most recent builds by Mangusta (an Italian brand belonging to Overmarine Group). She is one of six Oceano 39 models, a popular series that was nominated at last year's BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards.

Likened to an "ocean-going glass villa", the design is best known for its floor-to-ceiling windows in both the main and upper saloons, as well as its bow infinity pool with attached sunpads. The pool is fitted with a partial glass bottom that allows light to filter through to the master cabin below, which benefits from its own fold-out balcony.
