The 28.9-metre Astondoa motor yacht Da Vinci has caught fire off the coast of Formentera, Spain.
According to local reports, the fire alert was received yesterday at 11.20am (11 August), with authorities quickly dispatching a patrol boat and the rescue vessel Concepción Arenal to the area.
Da Vinci was carrying four passengers, two crew members and the captain at the time. They were all evacuated without injury.
Ultimately, the fire – which reportedly started in the engine room – could not be brought under control. Da Vinci has now sunk, with authorities remaining in the area to monitor and presumably salvage the wreckage.
The yacht belongs to Spanish yard Astondoa's 95 GLX series. Design highlights include accommodation for 10 guests – not including the full-beam owner's suite – as well as a flybridge with a wet bar, barbecue and dining table.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
