31m "pocket explorer" Ursus delivered to owner following major rebuild

　　Dutch builder Balk Shipyard has announced the delivery of the 30.4-metre "pocket explorer" Ursus, following an extensive, 18-month refit at the yard, which concluded with her initial launch in January 2025. The explorer was last spotted on sea trials in IJsselmeer, a lake in the Netherlands, in February.

　　In 2022, Ursus arrived at Balk's facilities in Urk, the Netherlands for her rebuild, which was completed in collaboration with Dutch studio Mulder Design. Plans included a new bow and stern, which has extended her LOA by six metres – she was previously a sub -24-metre Acico build – along with a longer superstructure for greater volume in the main saloon, sundeck and beach club. The yacht has also been painted a metallic Lantau Gold to match her new Range Rover livery.

　　Other upgrades included an upper deck extension, the installation of an al fresco kitchen, new wing stations and crane foundations and a two-tiered beach club with a spacious open upper level and waterside seating below. The new layout also provides an additional crew cabin and improved crew spaces, including an en suite in the captain's cabin.

　　"Ursus was completely transformed from bow to stern,” said Evan Kortmann, CEO of Balk Shipyard. "This type of complex ReCraft is something we've refined over many projects, and Ursus showcases what's possible when an owner has a clear vision and when we partner with an exceptional studio, such as Mulder Design.”

　　The original tender crane on board Ursus has been relocated to the extended sundeck, which also features the helm station, a barbecue, Teppanyaki grill and storage for two Jet Skis. The tender garage was also relocated from its original forward position to the aft, freeing up the foredeck for an al fresco cocktail area.

　　As the extended hull required "an adjusted setup" to maximise power, Ursus also received several technical upgrades during her time at Balk Shipyard. This included a new diesel-electric propulsion system, Veth Azimut drives and a dynamic positioning system. Her bridge was also completely upgraded.

　　According to BOATPro, Balk Shipyard is currently working towards the delivery of its next flagship, the 44.3-metre sailing yacht Yemaya, which is scheduled for delivery in 2026.
