    Everlight Responds to Nichia’s YAG Patent Victory in Germany

    Nichia Everlight Patent Infringement Patent Lawsuit YAG Patent

    In response to Nichia’s announcement of the final result of the patent lawsuit in Germany, Everlight reported that Nichia’s patent in Europe has expired in 2017 and that the result does not affect Everlight’s current products.



    The patent lawsuit was filed by Nichia in 2012 accusing Everlight of patent infringement with Everlight’s six white LED products. With the final judgment dated December 22nd, 2016, the Düsseldorf Court of Appeal had confirmed the infringement of Nichia’s YAG patent by Everlight. Yet, Everlight has requested from German Federal Court of Justice for allowance of a further appeal against the judgment of the Düsseldorf Court of Appeal concerning the YAG patent EP 936 682 (DE 697 02 929) of Nichia Corporation.



    Nichia announced on October 23rd that as Everlight has withdrawn its request to the German Federal Court of Justice, the German Court has confirmed the infringement of Nichia’s YAG patent by Everlight. Meanwhile, Everlight claimed that it has withdrawn the request as Nichia’s patents have expired and currently they do not affect Everlight’s products.

    China CDC publishes multilingual epidemic control manuals for COVID-19

    To allow timely sharing with other countries of the most up-to-date COVID-19 control and prevention information, particularly as developing countries often have weaker healthcare systems and resources, a critical multilingual manual has been published in both English and French by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. To comprehensively disseminate education on control and prevention of COVID-19 globally, based on the latest authoritative materials from China CDC, the World Health Organization and related periodicals -- with first-hand information from China, China CDC has organized experts and translators to develop the set of color publicity manuals containing FAQs regarding control and prevention of the epidemic(www.chinacdc.cn/en/COVID19). The compilation consists of such chapters as General Questions, Maternal and Child Health, Personal and Other Types of Protection, Diagnosis and Treatment. The manual, in a Q&A format, clarifies principal concerns of the general public in a systematic and focused manner, and has different color sketches tailored to African, ASEAN and South Asian countries, and is applicable for use by medical professionals and the general public alike. It can also be downloaded from the website to be circulated, or printed for distribution by Chinese embassies and consulates abroad, public health institutions of countries in Africa and other continents, foreign counterparts and the general public. At the same time, the manuals can also serve as materials to be used by Chinese experts when they go abroad for exchanges and training programs.

    Seoul Semiconductor Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit against SATCO

    Seoul Semiconductor filed a patent infringement lawsuit for infringement of its LED driver patents against SATCO Products (SATCO). Seoul Semiconductor claimed that SATCO is selling various LED lighting products that infringe 11 patents of Seoul Semiconductor’s LED driver technology, including U.S. Patent 7,081,722, U.S. Patent 9,807,828; U.S. Patent 8,513,899; and U.S. Patent 8,716,946.

    A few years ago, Spanish designer Silvia Ceñal introduced the Macaron pendant lamp and now with Lithuanian company EMKO, the Macaron Floor Lamp comes to life.     Super Lighting Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit against LED Lighting Company MaxLite

    Jiaxing Super Lighting Electric Appliance(“Super Lighting”), together with its affiliate Obert, the North American division of Super Lighting, filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California against MaxLite. Super Lighting and Obert accused MaxLite of infringing Super Lighting’s patents, including U.S. Patent Nos. 9,689,536; 9,841,174; 9,723,662; 10,208,897; 9,807,826; and 9,897,265, with its LED tube products.

    The 20th China (Guzhen) International Lighting Fair, Covering Lighting Design, Lighting Engineering, and Intelligent Manufacturing, Will Set Sail from a New Starting Point

    Co-hosted by China Association of Lighting Industry and China’s Lighting Capital – Guzhen Town, the 20th China (Guzhen) International Lighting Fair (hereinafter referred to as GILF) was held concurrently with the Guzhen Lighting Manufacturing, Supply & Services Expo 2017 (hereinafter referred to as Guzhen Manufacturing Expo 2017) at Guzhen Convention & Exhibition Center, Zhongshan, China today (on October 30). Relying on the Guzhen lighting manufacturing & trading industry clusters with an output value of 100 billion yuan, committing to serving small- and medium-sized enterprises, and focusing on sales in both domestic and international markets, the fair continues to join hands with sub venues (one main venue + seven sub venues) to gather more than 2000 high-quality brand enterprises with exhibits covering the whole lighting industry chain to build up an exhibition area of over 1,500,000 m2 in total.     Tunable white lighting in the classroom: The new ROI is ROO

    Throughout the past few years, we at LEDs Magazine have seen more solid-state lighting (SSL) product development targeted at educational environments. School officials, especially in the public-school arena, must manage strict budgets and plan strategically to obtain the best return on investment (ROI) possible, so the potential financial implications are important factors — first, the cost of premium equipment and installation, but then balanced against the possible payback due to energy efficiency initiatives and less maintenance. One consideration beyond the established cost reductions of SSL in institutional buildings such as schools is the possible impact of tunable white lighting in the classroom. Naturally, dimmability and other controls features such as granularity of color temperature can be customized to various classroom tasks and increase visual acuity. But what’s becoming even more appealing to educational administrators is the ability to influence less “visible” factors in the classroom, such as mood, behavior, and concentration. Strategies in Light, co-located with The LED Show and Lightspace California, will draw more attention to so-called human-centric lighting applications as this, also known as lighting for health and wellbeing. One such presentation, “Lighting for pupils…Tunable white lighting in the classroom and the new ROI,” by Tricia Foster of Acuity Brands Lighting and Catherine Hollenshead of Estes, McClure & Associates (EMA), will feature a case study on a Texas school district’s first-hand experience using tunable white lighting in several classrooms. Here the speakers give a glimpse into the new classroom experience. They will offer up additional details during SIL on how ROI has evolved into “return on objective” (ROO) in such installations. — Carrie Meadows

    Eaton Settles Patent Infringement Lawsuit with Two LED Lighting Companies

    Eaton announced that it has reached a settlement in the patent infringement lawsuit it filed against Cordelia Lighting and Jimway. The settlement ends a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia filed in 2016. As part of the settlement, Cordelia and Jimway will receive a license to the Eaton patents asserted in the District Court case.

    GE , Current Lighting Solution and Consumer Lighting File Patent Lawsuit against Cree

    General Electric (GE), Current Lighting Solution and Consumer Lighting have accused Cree of using a technology on Cree’s LED product which infringes the patent of GE’s TriGain LED technology. The three companies filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Cree on April 11, 2019.
