The Oracle Shopping Centre undertook a waste management review with Compact and Bale with the intention of maximising the amount of material they are recycling and improving their waste management system. The Durapac CB65X Semi-Automatic Baler alongside Ludden & Mennekes’ RPK Type Wet Waste Compactor provided the solution.
ABM (formerly GBM) take care of a number of cleaning and hygiene services in shopping centres across the UK and have worked with The Oracle since 2011.
Before implementation of the CB65X and RPK Type, the shopping centre had one mill-size baler producing 400kg bales.
Innes Collins, environmental services manager at ABM, said: "The baler had to be away from the main service area which caused serious problems with storage – we just had no space. Compact and Bale were recommended to me by a colleague, who had dealt with the company since it first started back in 2000 and couldn’t speak highly enough of their equipment."
By consistently producing top quality 750kg bales, The Oracle are now able to maximise their income, earning rebates for their bales. With an 1100 x 1750mm infeed aperture the CB65X is suited to large and bulky materials and shovel/forklift loading, so the shopping centre staff save hours of labour by not having to manually break up waste materials for recycling.
For the centre’s wet waste, a Ludden & Mennekes RPK Type Wet Waste Compactor was installed. The specialist machine is designed for sites with large volumes of waste but without sufficient floor space for larger compactors. Using a self-cleaning scoop action ram, the RPK is specifically designed to compact wet-, food- and organic waste.
As fulfilment of environmental targets becomes more and more significant for businesses, The Oracle required a waste management supplier that would enable them to reach these targets successfully.
Innes Collins concluded: "Really we want to be recycling as much as we can. We need to be maximising recycling opportunities and the new system allows us to do this successfully. For this reason I’d happily recommend Compact and Bale – we’ve had no problems since we got the new machine and we’re enjoying 750kg good quality, heavy bales which not only earn us rebates but also help to improve our green credentials."
