Horticultural Lighting Conference Europe will highlight LED light recipes for max yield
The program for the Horticultural Lighting Conference Europe has been set and the event looms next week on May 23 at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The event is approaching sellout status for attendees, so if you still want to attend, act fast because the venue has a hard capacity limit. The program includes experts that will address horticultural solid-state lighting (SSL) from a variety of angles. Attendees will learn about the application building from the LED light source to consideration of the light recipes that can deliver optimal crop yield.

We published an article that previewed a talk by Philip Davis of the Stockbridge Technology Centre a month or so ago. Davis will focus on crop yield and the ability to change plant characteristics including taste with differing LED spectrum.
Anja Dieleman of Wageningen University and Research will kick off the day’s presentations with a look at the fundamentals of light and crops. The talk will address both changing LED color and spectrum to impact plants, and techniques for lighting crops from above or the side. The paper will present the messages for growers seeking to create a denser, healthier, and greener crop of vegetables.
Reprising what was one of the most popular presentations for the US Horticultural Lighting Conference held last October, Jaimin Patel of the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will discuss the use of LEDs for pathogen control. We covered the earlier talk in our US conference recap. Patel will present his latest research that can enable healthier crops, which also could have greater shelf life.
A panel discussion with several of the aforementioned speakers will close the day. The panel will examine how science can accelerate the business of horticulture. That discussion will surely be of interest to the growers in the audience, and will help guide manufacturers and the supply chain seeking to supply the growers.
The Horticultural Lighting Conferences are presented by the PennWell LED & Light Network. Specifically, LEDs Magazine, Lux Review, and Strategies Unlimited are working together in developing the program and organizing content for the conferences.
