Now, IHG's portfolio across eight countries in Africa totals 25 operating hotels. Gauvin says the group plans to further expand this footprint across the continent more than 27 percent within the next three to five years.

This is IHG's latest signing in the region, following the company's signing with Arabia Holding subsidiary Arabia Hotels to open Giza, Egypt's first IHG properties. The two properties—the 200-room Holiday Inn Giza Sun Capital and the 150-room Staybridge Suites Giza Sun Capital—will be developed within the Sun Capital mixed-use project. The hotels are slated to open in 2023 next to the development's shopping mall, Egyptian cultural-themed park and international university.  ">
