Marriott International said Tuesday that it cleared antitrust review proceedings for its proposed acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 officially expired on Monday. The pre-merger waiting period under Canadian law also expired.
Both companies will hold stockholder meetings on March 28 for approval of the pending $12.2 billion acquisition, which was announced in November.
The buyout, which will extend Marriott’s lead over Hilton Worldwide as the largest publicly traded U.S. hotel company, is expected to be completed mid-year.
