STR global monthly reports on May performance: STR, parent company of Hotel News Now, has released its May 2016 global performance reports for the Asia/Pacific; Europe; Middle East/Africa; and Central and South America regions.

Asia/Pacific: The Asia/Pacific region reported mostly negative year-over-year results for May 2016. Occupancy remained nearly flat with a 0.1% increase to 67.6%. Average daily rate decreased 1.8% to $95.50 while revenue per available room fell 1.7% to $64.57.

European: Europe’s numbers were mostly positive last month. Occupancy dipped slightly year over year by 0.3% to 73.4%. ADR rose 2.1% to €114.28 ($126.66), and RevPAR increased 1.7% to €83.89 ($92.97).

Middle East/Africa: Numbers from the Middle East and Africa were mostly negative for the month. In the Middle East, occupancy was nearly flat year over year, rising 0.1% to 69.1%. ADR dropped 4.7% to $156.75 while RevPAR fell 4.6% to $108.34 in U.S. dollar constant currency. Africa’s occupancy declined 5.8% to 56.1%. However, its ADR increased 8.8% to $100.16, boosting RevPAR 2.5% to $56.15.

Central/South America: The May results from Central and South America were mixed. The region reported an 8.8% year-over-year decrease in occupancy to 51.9%. ADR rose 7.7% to $88.86, but RevPAR still fell 1.8% to $46.11.
