Pepsi unveiled a new logo and visual identity system. It is the first update of the Pepsi globe logo in 14 years. Pepsi will roll out the new look in North America this fall in time for the brand’s 125th anniversary and globally in 2024. The logo will span all physical and digital touchpoints, including packaging, fountain and cooler equipment, fleet, fashion and dining. Pepsi also began to convert all 20 oz (591.45 mL) bottles of Pepsi, including Pepsi Zero Sugar, to 100% recycled PET.

Nesquick partnered with FutureBrand to modernize its brand identity to create relevance in the digital age and grow into new audience segments. FutureBrand maintained the vibrant, distinctive Nesquick yellow as the primary color while making it more natural. The Agency also evolved and modernized the global trademark to capture and convey a new warmth and approachability, using the white outline to communicate the product idea of milk compliment, which is further reinforced by the droplet that forms the dot over the ‘I.’

Heinz unveiled a double-ended ketchup bottle that could solve problems facing fans worldwide. The Heinz Ketch-Up & Down bottle has two lids that allow consumers to access every last drop no matter which way up they store or use it. The team at Kraft Heinz created the concept after studying ketchup fans closely and realizing that everyone seems to have their peculiar preferences.

Dow launched a new digital paint formulation platform available in Asia Pacific. Dow Paint Vision offers data-driven capabilities designed to simplify the formulation process and accelerate innovation in the paints and coatings industry. The platform connects R&D with thousands of data points collected from Dow labs and merges them with the latest trends in sustainability and end-user needs. It was built and backed by Dow scientists. Paint Vision is a digital service platform that supports users with access to the latest research, product samples, training resources and more.

Avery Dennison Corporation announced it is transitioning to a carbon footprinting tool created in collaboration with the Carbon Trust to continue its drive toward transparency and continuous improvement in environmental impact measurement and reporting on its label products. The Carbon Trust footprinting tool intends to provide information on the greenhouse gas and water footprint of an expanding array of Avery Dennison’s label and global packaging materials products, including selected faces, liners and adhesives. The footprint reports align with the reporting and verification methodology of GHG Protocol Product Standard, PAS2050 and ISO-14067.

Smurfit Kappa announced that it is on target to deliver on its long-term goal to have at least net zero emissions by 2050, according to its 16th annual Sustainable Development Report. The report covers January to December 2022. It highlights the company’s progress through continuous capital investment, ongoing operational improvement and collaboration with customers and other key stakeholders. In the past six months, the company’s sustainability credentials have been recognized. Smurfit Kappa received two “Top Rated” badges from Morningstar Sustainalytics for both “regional” and “industry” out-performance.

Tapwow, a provider of cloud-based IoT software solutions, announced a strategic partnership with Identiv, an IoT-based digital security and identification solutions supplier, to offer smart packaging systems for customer engagement, authentication, product diversion and traceability. Tapwow will become the technical solutions provider for Identiv and will work with customers to deliver prebuilt, semi-custom and custom experiences for consumer engagement, authentication, traceability, reuse and recycling.

A total of 173,505 of Huhtamäki Oyj’s treasury shares have been transferred without consideration to the company’s key personnel participating in the Performance Share Plan 2020–2022 and Restricted Share Plan 2021–2023. The directed issue is based on the authorization given by the company’s Annual General Meeting of 2022 and the subsequent decision by the company’s board of directors. Since the transfer, Huhtamäki Oyj holds 3,222,204 own treasury shares (2.99% of all shares).

Initially launched to Ecosurety members exclusively, the company states that the hub has proved to be a valuable resource to help the members to understand the complexities of EPR regulations. However, after the widespread confusion expressed by packaging producers throughout the UK, Ecosurety opted to provide the resource for free to all producers for a limited period to ensure EPR readiness for all UK packaging producers.

Ahlstrom joined forces with Istituto Stampa on its innovative sustainable packaging solution for the butter and margarine industry. The companies developed a compostable solution for butter and margarine packaging. This material has been tested and qualified, enabling Istituto Stampa to provide a sustainable benefit to major European brands. The product is based on Sulpack, made using Ahlstrom’s unique Genuine Vegetable Parchment technology. Sulpack’s attributes bring the protective barrier to dairy products and offer an alternative to the traditional aluminum plastic structures and an effective, fiber-based barrier to Mineral Oil Hydrocarbons contamination.

Ahlstrom also announced its Cristal Transparent Packaging Papers met ChemFORWARD’s evaluation of human and environmental criteria for safer alternatives through the organization’s SAFER program. The Cristal transparent papers are “ideal” alternatives to non-renewable materials, from replacing plastic or film in a package to creating a fully fiber-based end-use structure. The Cristal products, including both transparent papers and PurposeSeal heat seal packaging products, are certified recyclable, passing the Western Michigan University SBS Equivalency testing protocol. They also received third-party certification from Centre technique du papier certifying Cristal’s heat-seal coating is recyclable to the European Union’s standards.
