In 2017, the total output of the whole Zhejiang province, China reached RMB 5176.8 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 7.8%. In the background of urbanization and upgrading of consumption structure, the furniture industry in Zhejiang is in a great-leap-forward development.

According to data from Zhejiang Economic and Information Commission and provincial Bureau of Statistics, the gross industrial output value of 807 furniture enterprises above designated size was RMB 93.383 billion from January to November, with a year-on-year growth of 14.8%. The export delivery value was 49.049 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 12.4%.

Zhejiang Province Furniture Association reports that the furniture industry in Zhejiang is facing two major conditions currently:

Capital barriers to industry development began to form

The consumer group of furniture industry is getting younger, resulting in furniture customization, stylization and differentiation. The balance of scale effect and personalized demand become the focus of attention for the industry development. The establishment of a complete set of flexible production ecosystem needs large capital investment, bound to push the small sized workshop-type enterprises out of the industry.

Upgrading of environmental requirements

Since the implementation of the new environmental protection law in 2015, the punishment against environmental protection has been strengthened and the law enforcement means have been newly increased. According to incomplete statistics, many furniture enterprises, building materials enterprises and decoration enterprises in Zhejiang province were forced to stop doing business for internal rectification or even shut down because of environmental pollution problems, in the first half of 2017.
