TAMPA, Fla. - Trading on business and consumer fears of formaldehyde exposure, Building Health Check peddles a "How to" video showing customers how to take indoor samples. The video provides a simplified approach for using the Formaldehyde Screen Check (FOSC) available at Indoor Air Test.
"Sources of formaldehyde in the home include building materials, pressed wood products (hardwood plywood wall paneling, particleboard, fiberboard) and furniture made with these pressed wood products," says the company's blog, describing the chemical as a "colorless, pungent-smelling gas, that can cause watery eyes, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, nausea, and difficulty in breathing in some humans exposed at elevated levels (above 0.1 parts per million). "
To test for the presence of formaldehyde, the company sells the Formaldehyde Screen Check, a DIY test kit that can be used to measure personal exposure or room exposure in homes or businesses. It is analyzed by an accredited laboratory, and customers receive a written lab report of their sample results.
Building Health Check desribes itself as a nationally recognized manufacturer and distributor of indoor air quality test kits, equipment and products.
