The International Sleep Products Assn. has revised price point data for 2016 that shows major growth at the high-end of the bedding market.
The revised data still reports major gains in shipments at $2,000 and up this year, gains that are highly unusual in the history of the ISPA price point data.
According to the revised data, the dollar value of queen sleep sets retailing at $2,000 and up accounted for 30.9% of the share commanded by the reporting producers in the third quarter of this year, compared to an 18.5% share for that segment in 2015.
All other price categories – under $500, $500 to $1,000, and $1,000 to $2,000 – lost dollar share in the third quarter, compared to last year’s totals, according to the ISPA report.
In units, queen sleep sets retailing at $2,000 and up commanded 6.9% of the unit share accounted for by the reporting producers in the third quarter, well above the 5.2% share for all of 2015, ISPA said.
The bedding industry’s trade association said it had learned that “due to certain data reporting errors,” the price point information that it previously published for 2016 is inaccurate. Correcting those errors has a material impact on the aggregate data for all three quarters, ISPA added. Therefore ISPA revised the data for the first three quarters of this year, the association said.
