Editor’s Note: Surviving the Yacht Show Season

　　As the summer months draw to a close, the boat show season comes into sight and with it the excitement of what lies ahead. With less than four weeks until the start of the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) and a mere week and a half until the Cannes Yachting Festival, things are beginning to heat up with phones ringing and stories developing thick and fast.

　　For the majority of the yachting community, Monaco and Cannes’ yacht shows are a familiar sight, important events that demand their attendance and provide the setting for new possibilities. However, this year we have some new team faces attending the show and I’m sure they won’t be the only ones attending the boat show season for the first time. To help them, and to remind all attendees of the shows, here are three Ps to observe.

　　PREPARE for the show. Make sure you know where the business you want to see are located, or where yachts that are of interest are berthed. It is important to keep in mind that the vessel you wish to see may be moored outside the marina, requiring additional arrangements for viewing or meetings. Yacht shows can be extremely busy and in the case of MYS, getting from one end of the marina to the other takes time, even with the use of the complimentary shuttle boats. 　　PACE yourself. With a solid plan of attack, you will significantly reduce the chances of being overcome by fatigue. Both September shows are usually blessed by sun and warm temperature, making the next tip equally as important as the first two. And whatever you do, don’t take new shoes to the show and make sure that while also being smart, they won’t destroy your feet. In other words, wear comfortable footwear.

　　PEPPERMINT and water are the two most important supplies, followed by sunscreen. You will want to have these on you throughout the day, every day. While many of the stands at the shows will offer water, it would be remiss to have your own supply as well.

　　While the suggestions above may seem obvious to many, it is surprising how often visitors to the shows get caught out. So remember to prepare ahead of the show, pace yourself each day and stay rehydrated and fresh.
