Lisbon, Portugal-based start-up Faroboats has introduced an innovative solar-powered dock concept with integral EV charging capability, providing a convenient means of charging electric boats in remote areas with unreliable power supply or no supply at all.
The Faroboats Powerdock is a fully self-contained, floating dock structure capable of charging electric boats in as little as three hours. An integrated lift stores the vessel clear of the water to prevent marine fouling. Three Powerdock models – the S10, S20 and S30 – offer battery capacities of 10.2kW, 20.4kW or 30.6kW respectively. Each utilise six overhead-mounted 450W, 48V solar panels to generate power, with the S20 and S30 models adding a 5.2kW or 10.4kW wind turbine for additional power generation capability. Power is stored in up to six internal batteries, which can in turn be used to recharge electric boats in as little as three hours.
