Architecture firm BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, has recently completed Marsk Tower, a lookout tower located in the marshlands of Denmark’s popular National Park, Wadden Sea.
The 82 foot (25m) high tower, whose name translates to Marsh Tower, is a sculptural object surrounded by sweeping landscapes designed as a key tourist landmark.
The Corten steel exterior defines the tower’s simple design, used to create a natural aesthetic that blends with the surrounding environment.
To reach the top of the tower, there are steel stairs that wind around a central core. There’s also a wheelchair-accessible elevator within the core of the structure, providing access via the ground-level ramp.
BIG worked with the blacksmiths of Schacks Trapper to create the tower, which also includes safety rails that follow the design of the stairs.
At the top of the stairs, the tower opens up to a platform that offers 360-degree views of the intertidal ecosystem of the Wadden Sea National Park.
