HD Expo 2017 wrapped up in Las Vegas on May 5 after attracting more than 800 exhibitors and more than 10,000 attendees. The reconfigured show floor allowed for 275,000 square feet of show floor space. The annual event was an opportunity for suppliers to display their latest innovations and that they did. Many of the new products and technologies on hand have a green story behind them—whether having to do with the material they are made of or the energy or water they conserve. It would be impossible in this space to include all of the green news from the show floor but here are some highlights.
One FF&E supplier revealed that it is working on a biodegradable foam for furniture cushioning. The supplier was not yet ready to provide more details.
RSA RoomService Amenities introduced its Tarocco Naturalé line of amenities that feature an aromatic blend of Sicilian Blood Oranges and Sandalwood. The readily recyclable bottles include EcoPure, an additive to accelerate the biodegradation process.
Sterling Sleep Hospitality featured its sustainable mattresses that come with interchangeable replacement parts that reduce the cost of bed ownership by 50 percent while reducing solid waste.
Kenyon Appliances featured its American made energy-saving cooktops that include induction heating technology.
Arete Industries displayed its many outdoor site furnishings made from recycled plastic materials—water cooler cabinets, beverage stations, sports equipment storage boxes, towel valet stations, waste receptacles and recycling receptacles.
Interface Hospitality, part of Interface, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of modular carpet, showcased its custom process for innovative design services.
A Mirror with an Inspirational Story
Electric Mirror, a global leader in mirror technology, introduces Ava, a new LED lighted mirror designed to help women perfect their makeup application. Featuring SmartLook technology, Ava allows women to change the lighted mirror’s light color to closely match the environment they’re about to encounter, making precise makeup application possible. The product name Ava was chosen to honor an Electric Mirror employee’s beautiful younger sister who is battling cancer.
Hansgrohe launched several new hospitality solutions and programs at this year’s HD Expo. The introductions include new faucets and shower components from the AXOR Montreux collection, as well as stylish, high-performing and eco-conscious showerheads and shower pipes from the Hansgrohe brand.
Rubbermaid Commercial Products unveiled its new Resist line of waste receptacles. Launching later this year, Resist receptacles are designed for commercial outdoor environments. Advanced coating technologies and robust materials deliver extreme durability and increased protection against natural elements and common abuse. The receptacles are available in four different sizes.
Geberit North America showcased the Concealed Tank and Carrier System’s expanding role in water efficiency and modern bathroom design— highlighting its many advantages over standard toilets. Attendees saw how the system is inspiring new creativity and how in-wall technology allows designers to overcome unique bathroom design challenges.
Speakman introduced the Kubos Collection, an assortment of hospitality exclusive bathroom fixtures inspired by pure, modern design. Each item in this collection features a crisp, square frame that is both clean and refined. The Kubos Shower Head is available in 2.5 and WaterSense Certified 2.0 GPM flow rates, and has been precision engineered to deliver a powerful, customizable performance. Kubos Faucets are available in both widespread and single lever designs.
Robern highlighted its new design and engineering services for hotels and high-rise residences. The new white-glove service makes it possible for the commercial market to take advantage of Robern’s 45 years of experience in designing styling space products—like bathroom vanities, cabinets, lighted mirrors and lighting options—and collaborate to customize solutions that fit even the most challenging spaces.
Tarkett Launches Capsule Collection
Tarkett, a leader in innovative and sustainable flooring and sports surface solutions, announced the launch of Capsule Collection, the newest collection from Desso. Capsule Collection’s designs are a visual representation of the luxury of being cradled by transformative patterning. Its concept plays on the ideas of soft movement, layered textures and tactile interest. Interlacing threads, woven elements, and deconstructing fabrics allow each design within Capsule Collection to be inherently unique, however, the simulated effects throughout each unify the aesthetic. The result is a hospitality flooring collection that creates an inviting and touchable environment.
Legrand exhibited its design and technology-centric adorne and radiant collections—comprised of light switches and dimmers, nightlights, outlets (including USB outlets), and corresponding wall plates—which empower hospitality decision-makers to elevate simple guest experiences, such as charging devices or controlling lighting sources, in unexpected ways. These products are available in an array of materials, colors, and finishes that integrate into any design aesthetic. Among the options: safe, permanent outdoor power solutions, including in-ground boxes and charging pedestals; floor, table and ceiling boxes for efficient and functional meeting rooms; and Furniture Power Centers that bring access to power and lighting control directly where guests need it most, such as at the headboard in guestrooms.
Southern Aluminum featured its line of linenless tables made from aluminum that help reduce laundry related costs.
Snap Power introduced its simple yet innovative light switch and outlet plates that quickly become nightlights and/or USB chargers once snapped on.
Blondie’s Treehouse Inc. offered its exterior planting design and maintenance to interiorscaping and floral services. Among the company’s offerings: green walls.
NewPro Containers featured its indoor and outdoor planters in many designs and materials and for many different applications.
Freedom Outdoor Furniture was at the show with its furniture made from recycled plastic milk jugs. Table, chairs and planters in many different styles and colors were on display.
An Efficient Toilet Flushing System
Flushmate demonstrated its Pressure-Assist system for specially designed toilets that ensures a water-efficient, effective flush each time. According to Flushmate, its system cleans better than gravity-fed toilets.
Baltix Sustainable Furniture featured its tables made from only the most socially and environmentally conscious materials.
OpenKey demonstrated its mobile phone based, keyless, cardless solution for guestroom entry. The system significantly reduces plastic key card waste.
Allassea featured its mattresses, bases, and ActiveGuard bed bug killing Mattress Liner that kills bed bugs after 10 minutes of contact.
Representatives of Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. Cooling & Heating explained their heating and cooling system that utilizes variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology.
JVD displayed products ranging from hand dryers to soap dispensers. The France-based company has its products in more than 80 countries.
Solar Gard featured its window film that can reject heat, reduce heating and cooling costs, prevent fading, control glare and add privacy.
Pillowtex Corp., a veteran owned company, was at the show with its pillow, blankets, comforters, sheets and more.
Campania International featured its new High Density Polyethylene Collection of planters manufactured in the United States from recycled milk jugs.
Renewed Materials, LLC showed variations of its recycled surfacing material. The company’s ALKEMI-acrylic is a design-driven surface material made from post-industrial acrylic.
Those attendees looking for reclaimed wood options found it at the TerraMai booth. The company’s many reclaimed wood options are sourced from around the world.
Next year’s HD Expo will take place from May 2 to 4 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
