The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership in Montreal has announced the call for its Luminothérapie 2018-2019 Competition. The annual winter festival, now in its ninth iteration, will take place November 29, 2018 to January 27, 2019. The intent of the program is to create a celebratory, interactive work that enhances the public realm and engages a public audience “…to move, meet, talk and have a shared experience.”

Open to artists, curators, and designers, the theme of the competition is “Encounters”. Multidisciplinary teams are encouraged to submit “…an auditory, luminous and participatory work for the Place des Festivals that creates a sense of wonder as well as video projections for the two adjacent building fa?ades.” The 2016-2017 festival featured the installation titled “Loop,” composed of 13 giant zoetropes.

The registration deadline for the competition is August 21, 2017, at noon. Proposals are due no later than noon, Montreal time, on August 30, 2017. There is no registration fee. The goal of this multidisciplinary competition is to produce an original winter-themed participatory experience in the Quartier des Spectacles and to stimulate creativity in the field of temporary public art installation activated by digital.”
