Newsweek has released its Green Ranking 2017 report. The publication considers it “one of the most recognized environmental performance assessments of the world’s largest publicly traded companies.” Newsweek sorts its list into several sub-lists: U.S. Top 10, Global Top 10, U.S. 500, Global 500, Best in Industry U.S., and Best in Industry Global.

In brief, the U.S. 500 consists of an assessment of the sustainability performance of the 500 largest publicly-traded companies headquartered in the United States by revenue as of December 31, 2016. The Global 500 consists of an assessment of sustainability performance of the 500 largest publicly-traded companies in the world by revenue as of December 31, 2016. Taken into account were metrics ranging from combined energy productivity score to whether or not the company has a sustainability board committee.
No hospitality company made the U.S. Top 10. Four companies are among the top 100 companies in the United States: Las Vegas Sands Corp., Host Hotels & Resorts Inc., MGM Resorts International, and Wyndham Worldwide Corp. Also in the U.S. 500: Marriott International Inc., Walt Disney Co., Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., Blackstone Group LP, and Expedia Inc.
No hospitality company made the Global Top 10. Walt Disney Co. came in at No. 308 on the Global 500. No other hospitality company was listed in that ranking.
On the Best in Industry U.S. list, Host Hotels & Resorts Inc. was No. 1 among Equity Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). On the Best in Industry Global list, no hospitality company appeared.
