Europe’s hotel industry posted growth across the three key performance metrics during January 2018, according to data from STR, the parent company of Hotel News Now. Overall, in euro constant currency for January 2018 compared with January 2017, occupancy increased 3.4% to 58.6%, average daily rate increased 2.2% to €97.89 ($120.43) and revenue per available room increased 5.7% to €57.39 ($70.60).
STR analysts said the post-Brexit referendum effect of lower pound sterling exchange rates still is giving the United Kingdom positive numbers. Each of the three absolute values were the highest for any January in STR’s U.K. database, and the year-over-year rise in occupancy came even with a 1.1% decrease in London. For all of the U.K. in the month, occupancy grew 0.6% to 63.9%, ADR grew 1% to £81.14 ($113.07) and RevPAR grew 1.6% to £51.88 ($72.29).
