Wil Myers, the young baseball phenom who was coached in high school by Luke Leather President Scott Davis, made it to the big leagues this week.

The Tampa Bay Rays called Myers up from the minors as the team was headed for a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox. Read about his debut at historic Fenway Park here in a blog by Tom Jones of the Tampa Bay Times.

Myers, who is from Thomasville, N.C., went to high school at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, where Davis is the baseball coach in addition to working as president of upholstery source Luke Leather. Myers honed his hitting skills in a batting cage that Davis built in his backyard, regularly attracting crowds of neighbors who were amazed at how far he could hit the ball, Furniture/Today's Larry Thomas wrote in a profile of the two earlier this year.

Davis predicted that Myers would make the major leagues this year, and he was right.
