Kit Kemp and Martin Brudnizki lead the stellar line up of international designers who will be creating

memorable features at this year’s Decorex International 2013 (22-25 September 2013). Presenting many of

the most captivating and design-led companies from the UK and internationally, they will be exhibiting at

Decorex’s new prestigious location, Perks Field & The Orangery, Kensington Palace.

Widely recognised as one of the most important international design events, the show provides visitors

with an extraordinary opportunity to source new products in one location from among some of the most

prominent names in the design world along with new talent exhibiting at the show for the first time. High

quality, striking materials and impressive craftsmanship are just some of the characteristics that all

the Decorex exhibitors share.

The historic site of Kensington Palace has provided the inspiration for the theme of this year’s show,

the Silk Route, when silks, porcelain and other luxury goods were introduced to Europe. This theme will

be used as a starting point by interior designer Kit Kemp, who has been invited to design the main

entrance to Decorex. Kit says: “Our Trader of spices and glittering silks arrives back to his hideaway

on a rainy Autumn London day. His cloak and hat hang, and his bedroom is a treasure chest of souvenirs

from his travels to market places in the Orient. The spice colours of the East and the dappled light of

an early Autumn day create a glowing scene. The chandelier of a glittering galleon above the bed reminds

him of travels of the past and those to come in the future.”

Martin Brudnizki Design Studio will be creating the Champagne Bar with an alternative twist. The design

will seek to demonstrate the Studio’s love for the interior design process and will capture the

excitement of the build phase of a project in its rawest state. In a new central location, the bar will

offer a welcome respite from the surrounding crowds.

Natural shapes have inspired many of the hand-knotted wool and silk carpets created by Amy Kent in

colours far removed from the physical world. Bare leaf poplar trees that look austere at dusk, the

extraordinary shape of a pink spider’s web frozen in winter or orange swallows circulating above heads

are just a few of the ideas that have found their way into Amy’s new carpets.

Handcrafted Moroccan tile specialist Habibi Interiors will be launching a new range of customised panels

alongside its existing range of handcrafted and hand-painted Moroccan tiles. The panels are available in

any size and colour combination and can be mixed with borders to make an original design for both walls

and floors. Specialists in reclaimed vintage tiles and antique terracotta from across Europe, The

Reclaimed Tile Company will be showcasing a selection of their French, Italian and Spanish tiles at the

show, offering an impressive range of designs, patterns and colours.

Cox London will be launching its new collection of handmade lighting and furniture designed and produced

in London. The grottos of Renaissance Italy have been the inspiration behind their gnarled bronze vine

occasional table as has the Magma chandelier in solid bronze. Italy has also been the source of the hand

-crafted hide found on the new Saddle Up armchair created by Stuart Scott, who is known for mixing

upholstery designs with cabinetry pieces. The armchair, handmade in their own workshops, is created from

solid timber in either walnut or oak, and has a strong design edge that is both practical and comfortable

to use.

Galerie Smith will be launching a new bespoke collection that consists of sofas, chairs, tables and other

cabinetry as well as lighting. This includes the Circus table, a sandwich of oak balls that exhibits

simplicity of design, inspired by Jean-Michel Frank.

Bamboo Cane wallpaper together with a floral design called de la Tour are just a few of the new pieces in

Paolo Moschino for Nicky Haslam’s new collection. English in design concept, Paolo Moschino has brought

a continental flair to the company that can be seen in the new range of upholstered chairs, table lamps,

wallpaper and fabrics that will be showcased on the stand.

De Gournay, known for its exquisite hand painted wallpapers, will be displaying its hand-painted organzas

in addition to its collection of hand-carved water gilded furniture. This has been inspired by pieces in

the 18th century Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm, Sweden and includes a console table, large writing

desk and impressive over mantle. New exhibitor Parisian Luc Druez will be showcasing his range of

textiles that mix natural and technical fibers to maximize their uniqueness under light. His diverse

collection features metallic, translucent, technical raffia, texture and rubber fabrics.

While Blithfield, designers and manufacturers of contemporary and archival printed and woven fabrics,

will be launching The Langham Collection which includes two woven designs, features an elegant stripe as

well as two fresh new contemporary prints. Harlequin London, specialist in luxury tableware, decorative

accessories and lighting, will be showcasing new products by some of the most prominent names in the

industry including St Louis’ Les Endiable brightly coloured glasses, Christofle’s new flatwear and

Venini’s new Doge hand-blown glass chandelier. Curiousa & Curiousa, based in Derbyshire in the Midlands,

design bespoke free-blown glass and hand-made bone china lighting in a wide range of colours, shapes and

sizes.

A Tulip Globe table lamp and a series of new chandeliers including the highly distinctive Triptych Stacks

as well as the Isabel chandelier form part of the new collection. Collier Webb have established a

reputation for producing high quality metalwork, lighting and furniture. Highlights include the Round

Odeon Plaffonier in a bright nickel finish and a bamboo handle (right) available in a wide range of

materials including antique brass, bronze, copper and verdigris.
