Talks With 100% Design returns to London’s leading design show with another four-day programme of world-class content. Building on the success of the May series at Clerkenwell Design Week, Talks With 100% Design, Earls Court, London, is again set to be one of London’s principal live design events this September.
In the central auditorium will be Amass, created by British industrial designer Benjamin Hubert. This year sees each day of talks curated with an individual focus – Architecture, Creative Balance, Interior Design and The Consumer. This year the programme includes an additional series of live content set across each of the five show hubs – Interiors, Kitchens & Bathrooms, Office, Eco Design & Build and the International Pavilion. These hub sessions draw on new initiatives from exhibitors as well as current trends and business ideas across each wider sector.
Wednesday 18th September – Architecture
Talks With 100% Design launches with a day focused solely on architecture, and opens with a conversation between Richard Rogers and Icon editor Chris Turner. To coincide with a Royal Academy retrospective and his 80th birthday, Richard will share highlights of a lifelong career, in this special launch session. The first day of talks also features Peter Murray (NLA), Tony Chapman (RIBA), Finn Williams (Common Office), 6A Architects, Stanton Williams, Duggan Morris Architects, Eric Parry and Rory Olcatyo - a roster of leading practices, institutes and prominent figures bought together to illuminate and debate issues and movements within the sector.
A UK Architecture session with a focus on awards is aptly timed to coincide with the Stirling Prize, and Tom Dyckhoff - a Stirling Prize judge for 2013 - asks the question: Do Prizes Still Make a Difference? NLA, London’s Centre for the Built Environment, will present a series of the winning and commended projects from this year’s New London Awards, chaired by Peter Murray in an hour of presentations. To close the day, Social housing will be dissected from an architectural and social perspective, with a panel lead by Newham’s John East featuring Finn Williams, Social housing blogger/expert Andrea Klettner and Kate Macintosh - the latter providing a look back to examples of post-war architecture and the social housing structures of past decades.
Thursday 19th September 19th – Creative Balance
Creative Balance is the overall theme of 100% Design 2013, and each carefully-chosen speaker on the second day of talks will use this as a brief for their session. Design legend Giulio Cappellini aptly launches and headlines the day. Universally recognised as a global talent scout, Giulio also heads the emblematic company, successfully maintaining its position as a global leader within the design industry.
The British Council’s Ellie Smith discusses the influence of cultural and international experiences on creative direction with Harry Richardson (committee), Benjamin Hubert and Julia Lohmann. Curator and journalist Suzanne Trocmé will host an exploratory conversation with bathroom giants Dornbracht, and Andreas Dornbracht, alongside creative director Mike Meiré, will look into the company’s mission statement of Culturing Life. Editor of Onoffice, James Mclachlan will dissect a need for design and manufacturing to be more closely aligned, and is joined by Grant Gibson, Tom Lloyd, Bisley’s Richard Blackwell and KI’s Jonathan Kindle to look at what could and should be done.
Angus Montgomery, Design Week’s editor, is joined by BMWi’s Paulo Alves and authors of Business is Beautiful, for an insightful session on how design, elegance and craft drives beautiful business. Design Council returns to the stage with Obstruction Creation and chief design officer Mat Hunter is joined by a team of designers including TILT’s Oliver Marlow to look at how designers push boundaries to find their Creative Balance.
The Late Night session for 2013 is hosted by JAM’s Jamie Anley and brings four brand leaders with their edits from the show to the stage, also to discuss what Creative Balance means to them – featuring Craig Smith (Ted Baker), Paul Stamper (Renault) and Tim Gould (Casio).

Leading trends specialist within the Interiors hall, WGSN-Homebuildlife will look at Designing for Experience with creative director Lisa White, who will explore what experiences designers and brands provide, which in turn bring a shared sense of magic and discovery for the end user.
