The historic Bradbury Building in downtown Los Angeles is known as a setting for “Blade Runner.” But on May 3 it presents another kind of future when Gallery ALL, a contemporary design space, opens in a 2,400-square-foot storefront there. The inaugural show is of works by Naihan Li and Zhoujie Zhang, Chinese designers who hint at the creative promise of East Asia.
“We really wanted to make a statement about how emerging Chinese designers and their capabilities are not well recognized internationally,” said Yu Wang, a founder of the gallery with Qingyun Ma, dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California. Ms. Li is represented by her Skyscraper candles (from $40 each) and her folding furniture, including a rosewood table (about $11,000), a black walnut bar cabinet covered in mirror-finished stainless steel (about $16,000) and a walnut-and-stainless bookcase (about $11,000). Mr. Zhang will present his laser-cut, hand-welded furniture (about $14,000).
