China: The Largest Furniture Export Country in the World with Customized Home Furnishings Expanding Continuously
The world’s furniture industry has developed rapidly. In 2016, the total output value of the furniture industry in the world reached USD 420 billion, and the home furniture accounted for about 60%, with the highest proportion. China, America, Japan, Korea and Western Europe have had the important positions in furniture production, technology and trade. In recent 5 years, the total output value of the furniture industry has been relatively stable, and about 70% of furniture has been consumed in the source area and 30% has been exported.
China has been not only the largest furniture export country in the world, but also the largest furniture production country in the world. China has accounted for 39% of the furniture production in the world, and has exceeded the second largest country America for 18%. The trend of furniture manufacturing transferring from Europe and America to Southeast Asia has been very obvious as well: Vietnam has repeatedly set new all-time highs in the export amount, with the fastest growth, and it has reached the level of Poland currently.
Growth in the customized furniture enterprise has been far higher than the overall growth in the furniture industry, and more and more furniture enterprises have transformed to be engaged in customization. In 2017, many customized furniture enterprises were listed, and the competition intensified; however, the penetration rate of the industry has been only 20% currently, so it has still been in the period of expansion, and the market penetration rate of the customized home furnishings has still had the promotion space.
With the rapid increase in the quantity of the middle class in China, the middle and high-end consumer group has gradually emerged, and the customized furniture industry has begun to stepped into the development stage of rapid growth.
