Sixteen departments including the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Public Security recently issued the Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Digital Homes and Improving the Quality of Living (hereinafter referred to as "Opinions").

The opinions pointed out that in recent years, information technology has developed rapidly and the functions and service content of digital homes have been continuously expanded. However, there are still problems such as unbalanced development, low level of intelligence in residential and community supporting facilities, and insufficient product system interconnection.

In this regard, the opinions put forward corresponding improvement goals. 

By the end of 2022, digital home-related policies, systems and standards will be basically sound, and at least one city or municipal district in a province (autonomous region, municipality) with better basic conditions will carry out digital home construction, basically forming a replicable and extendable experience and life service model. 

By the end of 2025, build a relatively complete digital home standard system; build new fully-furnished residential and community facilities, fully equipped with communication connectivity, and possess necessary smart products; existing residential and community facilities, with certain smart products, digital transformation Initial results have been achieved; an orderly development of the digital home industry ecosystem including real estate development, product R&D and production, and operation services has initially formed; health, education, entertainment, medical care, fitness, smart broadcasting and other digital home life service systems are relatively complete.

In the field of residential smart home furnishings, the opinion specifically proposes to strengthen the installation of smart products in the residence. 

For newly built fully-decorated houses, clarify the requirements for basic smart products such as building intercom, intrusion alarm, and automatic fire alarm; encourage the installation of healthy, comfortable, and energy-saving smart home products; encourage reservations for abnormal behavior monitoring, emergency calls, and health at home manage the setting conditions of age-appropriate smart products. Encourage existing houses to refer to new houses to install smart products, and carry out electrification, digitalization, and network transformation of traditional home building materials such as doors, windows, sunshades, and lighting.

In recent years, smart homes have been increasingly recognized and accepted by consumers and have become a hot product in the home furnishing market. As China has the advantage of user scale and superimposed policy support, the future of China's smart home equipment market is extremely broad.

According to the 2020 smart home industry research report, China's smart home market will reach 206.4 billion yuan in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 45.15%. By 2023, the market size will reach 517.6 billion yuan.
