Grants available to train spray finishers
    March 24,2010

Companies can qualify for grants of up to $20,000 in training, said CMA Executive Director Dave Grulke.

The program includes hands-on technical training as well as certification in areas including multi-step antiquing and glazing, color matching, spray operator and FinishGenius software.

Training will either be standardized or customized based on company needs. It is available for companies in North Carolina that use solvent-based or water-based finishes, or for companies that wish to convert to water-based finishes.

"It's a great opportunity," Grulke said. "A lot of folks have considered converting from solvent-based to water-based finishes and they are looking for some better ways to develop some consistency in their finishes."

He added that the program also is timely due to demands from the marketplace for more custom finishing.

"People aren't satisfied with just a plain old stain and a clear coat on top," he said. "People want more variety."
