Retail sales rise 7.6% in April, but furniture stores up just 0.8%

According to the report released Thursday, sales at furniture stores were up 0.8 % over April a year ago to $7.44 billion, but were down 1.1% from $7.53 billion in March.

The increase in total retail sales was the 10th consecutive monthly gain. Among the gainers were grocery stores and sellers of clothing, gasoline and automobiles.
