FIRA appoints new furniture technician supervisor

A new supervisor has been appointed for FIRA Service Technicians, the market-leading furniture care and repair specialist. Darren Colvin, who has been working for FIRA as a technician since 1996, started his new role as one of three technician supervisors last week.

As a supervisor, he will be responsible for the recruitment, training and monitoring of the technicians to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service to meet demand. He will be responsible for organising up to 80 technicians that handle over 3000 referrals per month.

Darren trained at the London College of Furniture, going on to complete an apprenticeship at Collards Upholstery in Romford carrying out traditional leatherwork and upholstery.

Darren says: “I feel that my experience will help me to support the technicians as I have first-hand knowledge of the work they do and understand the challenges of the job. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a service technician and I am really excited about taking on this new role.”

Richard Whitbread, technician manager for FIRA Service Technicians and initially responsible for recruiting, training and helping Darren during his role as a technician, says: “I am really pleased that Darren accepted the position because I know that he has the right qualities to make an excellent technician supervisor.

“He has good interpersonal skills with a great understanding of the products with which we currently deal. This, combined with the experience and knowledge gained after several years as a technician on the road, will stand him in good stead in his new role. His task will include supporting the technicians in doing their jobs to the highest standard, developing their skills through training, liaison with clients as required and contributing to the smooth operation of the service.”
