La-Z-Boy said it will close its High Point division office within two years as part of the company's restructuring efforts for its casegoods lines.

The residential furniture manufacturer announced in April that it would move all casegoods production overseas as it transitioned to an all-import model for its wood furniture.

The facility's 38 employees were told of the closure Oct. 14, according to High Point Enterprise. Some of the workers, the news source reported, could transfer to a nearby facility.

“It’s been a pretty tough business the last 10 years. It’s been a very dynamic industry, and with much of the business moving offshore, it’s been challenging,” Kathy Liebmann, La-Z-Boy director of corporate communications, told HPE. The closure this year of La-Z-Boy's Lea furniture brand reportedly also played a role in the decision to close the office.

La-Z-Boy moved its divisional headquarters from Greensboro to High Point in 2007. Its corporate headquarters are in Monroe, MI.

La-Z-Boy's casegoods segment posted sales gains of 16.6% over last year, reaching $28.9 million for the fiscal 2015 first quarter. Upholstery sales for the company rose 6.8% over 2014 first quarter figures, to $262.9 million. The company's brands include: La-Z-Boy Residential, Hammary Furniture, England Furniture, Kincaid Furniture and American Drew.
