Stockholm: A Stool That Explores Forms
    December 24,2014

(Editor: Leona)

In Nikari’s project “5 Studies for Nature”, the fifth and final design comes from second year industrial design student Jari Devad in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of a competition by the university Konstfack. The project went around the world to Helsinki, Finland, Guangdong, China, Toronto, Canada, and Milan, Italy before landing in Stockholm. The Stockholm study is a wooden stool made from dark walnut, which helps to emphasize the angles of the stool’s surface.

Devad studied traditional Swedish wood carving that was mastered by Axel Robert Petersson, and by using 3D modeling, he was able to explore forms that look as if they were created by hand. The surface’s repeating patterns reference nature and the finished product manages to merge the physical and the virtual world.
