Foster + Partners Announces "Alibaba Shanghai Headquarters" Solution, Algorithm Generated Buildings
British international architect Foster + Partners wins Alibaba Shanghai headquarters competition. The building uses a unique form, which uses genetic algorithms to calculate the most comfortable building volume, and is regarded as "the landmark building of the Ali Group", showing the company's unique working culture to the public.
The building is located on the Xuhui River in Shanghai and is surrounded by the Huangpu River and the Pudong Business District CBD. It is a vibrant and emerging area. The building is centered on a large public space, organizes office space, and can "give people a glimpse of the world of Alibaba." In this project, transparency promotes borderless visual communication and physical connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The headquarters building optimizes the office environment through genetic algorithms and is highly responsive to the environment, creating tailored workspace solutions for different departments of Alibaba, while providing the public with a comfortable urban living room. The spatial organization and natural light within the building stimulate participation in the working community. Finally, by putting forward a modular construction plan to reduce the waste of resources and to reduce the tedious construction operations on the site to a great extent, it is most efficient.
