Three key executives in Walmart’s e-commerce unit have left the company as it works to integrate its acquisition of Jet.com, according to a story in the Wall Street Journal.
Fernando Madeira, head of Walmart.com; Dianne Mills, senior vice president of global e-commerce human resources; and Brent Beabout, senior vice president of e-commerce supply chain, have departed. Beabout will be succeeded by Nate Faust, co-founder of Jet.com, who will lead fulfillment for both Walmart.com and Jet.com, the Journal story said.
Walmart closed on its $3.3 billion acquisition of Jet.com in September—which also brought Hayneedle, the online retailer of home furnishings, into the Walmart fold. Marc Lore, another Jet.com co-founder, became president and CEO of Walmart’s e-commerce operation after the finalization of the acquisition, succeeding Neil Ashe. The Wall Street Journal story said the executive departures are an indication that Lore “is moving swiftly to put his stamp on the giant retailer.”
As of press time today, Walmart had not replied to a request for comment from HFN. At a meeting of Walmart executives with financial analysts last month, Lore and Doug McMillon, Walmart’s president and CEO, detailed the retailer’s efforts to ramp up its e-commerce operation, including further investments in the websites and the mobile apps.
“This company, over time, is going to look like more of an e-commerce company,” McMillon said at the meeting. “The Internet and technology are changing the world, as we know, and are changing Walmart. It’s necessary that we change the way we work and the speed with which we move to reach our ultimate destination—really happy customers.”
