Organizers of the Indonesia International Furniture Expo have announced the 2017 show will take place from March 11-14 at the Jakarta International Expo.
Continuing a previous theme of “The Essence of Infinite Innovation,” the show will feature export driven manufacturers of case goods, upholstery, accent furniture and accessories from in and around Jakarta, Surabaya and Semarang. Many of these manufacturers rely heavily on hand-carved wood pieces and others using mixed media elements.
The 2016 show featured some 500 local and international manufacturers including companies from Malaysia, China, Singapore, Spain, Australia, Taiwan, China and the U.S. There were 9,140 buyers from 112 countries, which included the U.S., Australia and Spain as the top three in terms of international attendance.
Indonesia remains an important resource, particularly for wood furniture. In 2015, the latest full year for which figures were available, it shipped $655.9 million in furniture to the U.S. market, up 7% from the $615.8 million shipped the previous year. Wood furniture accounted for the largest portion of these exports, followed by cane furniture and seating and metal furniture, respectively.
Wood frame upholstered chairs and wooden bedroom furniture were also major categories and growth areas.
