Dongguan Port IKEA exportation warehouse officially opens, with an annual export of USD 2 billion
On Dec. 12, IKEA, the world's biggest furniture and home accessories retailer, held the Launching Ceremony of Dongguan Port IKEA Exportation Warehouse Project and the Sailing Ceremony of the Guanyan Barge Express (Express Line 1 in Bay Area), marking that the global home accessories leader officially starts business in Dongguan.
Senior representatives from more than twenty world-famous logistics companies like Dongguan municipal government, Dongguan port, Yantian port, Cosco Logistics, Robinson, Desha, Qiaoda attended the ceremony.
Dongguan is a famous international manufacturing city, with almost 2000 furniture manufacturing enterprises, 1000 furniture raw material and supporting enterprise and about 300 hot-selling brands above designated size.
In the past, Yantian port and Shekou port in Shenzhen are the ports for customs clearance of export for IKEA suppliers in Dongguan. After the opening of an IKEA exportation warehouse, suppliers in Dongguan can complete custom's declaration directly in Dongguan Port. Joint with Guanyan Barge Express, the logistics cost can significantly reduce by over 20% according to previous test.
In addition, with the geographical advantages of Dongguan port, the project is expected to develop fixed-point transport of waterways, gradually covering the factories in Zhujiang West area like Zhongshan, Shunde, Jiangmen so as to create a multi-modal transport system that will further reduce enterprises’ transport cost and directly drive the export completion of twenty thousand TEU per year of foreign trade containers in Dongguan port. At the same time, it will also bring about ten thousand TEU per year of domestic trade container increment.
