With a name that literally means “rested” in Spanish, Reposado is one sailing yacht guaranteed to make you feel more relaxed. The custom 170-footer, which was recently delivered by Tramontana and listed for charter with IYC, combines the cruising capabilities of a high-tech sailer with the lavish amenities of a luxury superyacht.

There are few dream scenarios for a yachting writer than a sea trial of a sporty Italian dayboat on Lago Maggiore. The large lake nuzzles its way deep down among the jagged and snowy alps, straddling the border of Italy and Switzerland. While Lake Como has become touristy thanks to a certain movie star who has been filmed at the helm of a Riva, Lago Maggiore retains an air of low-key cool. It was a fitting place for the debut of the first boat built by Maserati, the 34-foot, five-inch Tridente. We were invited to do the first sea trial of any global media.

A yacht built in the Middle East designed for the U.S.? Hmm. That sounds like a stretch. But Dubai-based Gulf Craft, which has made inroads across Europe and Asia, now has its sights on gaining a North American following. The design includes distinctive bow cutouts and tapered glazing.

Who better to develop a superyacht for the next generation than an up-and-coming talent? Italian designer Davide Benaglia has just unveiled an innovative 220-footer that caters to the needs of young digital natives. The industry newcomer developed the aptly named Hype-R for Feadship’s Young Designer of the Year Award. The entrants, all of whom were under 28 years of age, were asked to create “futuristic” vessels with environmental innovations, cutting-edge technology, and workable layouts. Benaglia didn’t win the competition—Pradipta R. Hakim of Indonesia scored top honors—but his concept is still an interesting one.
