The Omni Charlotte Hotel announced plans for a $26 million renovation that will transform the property into a contemporary lifestyle destination. Moncur Design Associates Inc. and CT + C Design Studio are spearheading the transformation to this hotel that is located in the heart of the city’s financial district—with plans for a sleek new exterior, modern lobby, cosmopolitan guest rooms and suites, and an exclusive rooftop pool deck and bar.
Taking inspiration from the discovery of the 17–pound gold nugget and the city’s reputation as a top banking center, the hotel’s design theme revolves around Charlotte’s unique history with precious metals. The hotel’s spaces, from the exterior porte cochère down to the artwork in the guest rooms, will be refreshed with custom fabrics and finishes imbued with rich gold and silver tones, culminating in a cohesive design.
“Once the transformation is complete, the Omni Charlotte Hotel will be a one-of-a-kind destination for leisure and business travelers, as well as meeting attendees,” says David Palumbo, general manager for the Omni Charlotte Hotel.
Beginning the hotel’s transformation are its 374 guest rooms and suites, all with built-in custom casegoods, a new coffee experience featuring a modular bar built into the countertop, and an oversized plush sofa running along the length of the wall near the window for guests to enjoy the sights of the city. Each room has a color palette that is subtle and sophisticated with pops of pattern and texture. The artwork ties back to the overall concept with large gold discs representing the precious metals. Additionally, the bathrooms are receiving a complete redesign with new vanities and showers.
Anchoring the transformation is the complete redesign of the rooftop pool deck. Upon completion, the contemporary new area will add nearly 3,000 additional square feet of space, including a new bar and grill. The space will also feature double-sided LED television screens, each 22 feet wide by 12 feet high, with resolution that can be seen from EpiCentre, the surrounding area of businesses, entertainment venues, and a unique combination of cafés, restaurants, late night spots, and retail shops. With some of the largest screens in the city, the pool bar will be a destination sports and entertainment happenings in the city.
The Omni Charlotte Hotel’s transformation will also open the front exterior wall to allow for more transparent and natural light. The entry’s façade will feature an expansive glass exterior, as well as linear panels on the ceiling with a reflective metal wall serving as the focal point and open the hotel up for a more welcoming arrival experience. The lobby will be enhanced with gleaming flooring, burnished metal wall finishes, and a new guest registration. Precious metals serve as inspiration for the finishes used in the cocktail tables, furniture, and other lobby fixtures. The whole registration and check-in process has been revamped to give guests a more seamless and pleasant check-in experience.
Trade Restaurant & Bar will also undergo a major transformation featuring an expanded bar that opens up into the lobby. The restaurant will have new modern seating, tables, carpet, and decorative lighting, and a blue, ivory, and amber color palette. The menu will include hand-selected small bites and street food favorites.
Located on the 14th floor, the exclusive club lounge has new counter bars with views of the Charlotte skyline. It will serve complimentary breakfast and, later in the day, cocktails from its top shelf bar and appetizers.
